Kathi Kirchoff, Director of the North St. Paul Food Shelf. Ms. Kirchoff has worn many coats in her rather extensive life. Nurse to Goodwill Manager to College Instructor to Public Housing Manager to Community Organizer to Coordinator Senior Programs to Food Shelf Director. Kathi is an advocate for service and volunteering in many ways. Kathi was asked to manage the North St. Paul Food Shelf as the first paid position in approximately 40 years. The Food Shelf began through the work of a local Pastor aware of people who were experiencing hunger. It started in a 2 story old garage in a back street of North St. Paul, serving donated groceries to up to 10 people at a time. North St. Paul Food Shelf now has 10,000 square feet and through grants 2 vans for rescue food runs, 22 freezers and refrigerators. Partnerships with the community stores, churches, and schools are vital to the work. Approximately 300 people are served each week thru appointments and emergency food visits. Covid affected the food shelf by limiting volunteer help and now increasing food anxiety needs. The need is great!
